The hair on my chinny-chin-chin
I'm growing my facial hair back - a goatee, to be precise. I've been thinking about doing this for a while, but I never had a good reason to do it. Now I have one. It's a pretty stupid reason really, but just enough to push me over the edge - I ran out of the shaving gel that I like. Carla wants me to use a new kind that doesn't have any bad chemicals in it. I'm fine with that, but the "organic" shaving gel just doesn't make a nice lather. I need a good lather to properly shave. There's a reason they use those bad chemicals. I don't think they would put something in their product if it didn't make it better to use (even though it may make it more harmful). So to minimize the amount of shaving I have to do with the new stuff, I will grow it out again. The first time I did it, it was because I was sick and lazy. I went three days without shaving, so I figured I've got it started, I might as well keep going with it. Then I shaved it off because I started doing Rev War reeenacting. Continental soldiers shaved every three days, so I wanted to be authentic. But there were several others in the regiment with facial hair, so now I don't feel the need to be so authentic. I can't decide if I look better with it or without it. Carla can't either - she says I look cute either way. Can't argue with that.
Update: I have learned from a co-worker that the facial hair pattern that I have is called a "Van Dyke", not a goatee. A goatee is just the chin part - the chin and moustache combination is called a Van Dyke. Don't know where that name came from, maybe from the first guy that tried it. Must have been Dutch.
