Surgery

The surgery went well. We had to get there by 7 but the doctor was late and so they didn't actually start until 9 or so. They gave her some medicine orally to mellow her out. It was kinda funny to watch her get all relaxed and "happy". She was a little nervous when they carried her away from us but did not scream which is what she would have done w/o the meds. I think that would have really upset us too! Doug and I had planned to eat some breakfast while she was in surgery, but both of us had lost our appetite. Noah had not, though, and scarfed some crispy nuts and raisins in the waiting room. She was done by 9:30. They go in order from youngest to oldest and so Claire was the first. I am very glad, too. They must have had 10 children scheduled for surgery that day! When we went to see her in post-op, one of the nurses was holding and rocking her. I thought that was nice of them to do. Of course she is just so cute, how could they not? I held her but she just cried and cried and kept her eyes shut. They said it probably felt more gritty from the stitches than hurt. She kept rubbing her nose and trying to rub her eyes, which we were supposed to keep her from doing. Very pitiful indeed! We took her out to the van and I held her while she drank some milk. I could tell she was very tired but too upset to sleep. Finally she dozed off and I put her in the carseat. We moved Noah to the back row in the van so I could sit next to Claire on the ride home. I held her hand and she slept until we stopped for lunch. She and Noah had homemade banana yogurt. Then she fell back asleep until we got home. She drank some more milk. And then she took another long nap. Got up, ate a big supper of soup and fresh pineapple for dessert, played, went to bed at 8 like usual and slept all night. She ate so much for supper I told Doug maybe they should have done a stomach bypass too while they had her asleep. :)

Her eyes are pretty bloodshot and puffy today, which is normal. We have an Rx for an antibiotic/steroid ointment that I put in her eyes this afternoon. She didn't like that too much. She's been a little cranky/clingy today, but much better than yesterday. She's a trooper! I'm so glad to have this done. It's hard to tell how straight her eyes are because they are so red. Hopefully this will be the first and last surgery for her!

We had a lot of people praying for us/her and I felt so comforted knowing that.
