Wallpaper

We're taking down the wallpaper in our kitchen/breakfast room. It's a very fruity print. This weekend Doug's parents will be coming to help us a knock a hole in the wall and paint the walls red. Yes, red. OK, more like cranberry. I think it's going to look nice. The hole in the wall will hopefully resemble a nice window opening between the breakfast room and playroom before they leave on Monday.

I've never taken wallpaper down before. Our technique has improved as we've gone along. Doug uses a scraper to get the fruity vinylish layer off, and then I smear on this blue gel that loosens the glue holding the more papery layer off. It peels off pretty easily most times, but it sure makes a royal mess. I'm glad we started working on it last weekend. We should finish this afternoon, just in time for the demolition to begin tomorrow. We're leaving the striped wallpaper up for now. It's not an eyesore like the fruity stuff.
