Christmas letters

We enjoy getting Christmas letters from our friends and family. It's nice to hear how people are doing that you normally don't hear from during the year. It is more enjoyable and interesting to get a letter that tells how the family is doing and what has happened to them over the past year than to get a card that just says "Merry Christmas". I'm not big on cards myself, and Carla isn't either - it's a nice gesture, but I'd rather have a letter to go along with it that gives more info.

A few years ago we started writing our own "Christmas" letters to ourselves. It's more of a New Year's letter really. At the end of the year we record all the things of significance that happened in our lives over the past year. We try to keep a running list through the year so we don't forget something, but we usually forget to do it until the end of the year. It's fun to look back on some of the things that happened years ago. The first year we did it, 2001, we recorded things like our first house, a trip to Spokane, WA, how Carla started grinding her own wheat and making bread, and a miscarriage.

Would we send out Christmas letters to our friends and family? As much as we like to get them, we would probably not send them. After all, that's what this blog is for!
