One season following another
When Doug and I had our wedding rehearsal dinner, my brother Knocker unveiled a 15-minute video he had created. He had borrowed pictures, 8mm film clips, VHS video clips, and some "commercials" that Doug and I had "starred" in when we were younger (independently -- Doug made them up in NJ w/ his brother David and some friends, I had made commercials in NC w/ my brothers Sid and Knocker and little sister Sandra). He took all this and put together a video montage set to various music. Of course there was lots of embarrassing stuff in there. Think of it as a roasting video, if you will.
We were watching this video last week at Doug's parents' house. Noah and Claire will watch this over and over if I let them. One of the songs on the video is "Sunrise Sunset" from the movie "Fiddler on the Roof". In case you haven't seen Fiddler, you're missing out. Big time. It's funny and sad at the same time.
Anyway, ever since we watched it last week, I've had that song stuck in my head. I can really relate to it now that I am a parent. I feel like my life is just flying by. And w/ each child we've had, it goes faster and faster. Chloe is already 2 months old. Noah is 4 and Claire is 2. Where has the time gone? Next thing I know they'll be getting married. I could be a grandma in less than 20 years!
As of 2 weeks ago, my 20s are gone and my 30s are here. It seems like it took forever to get to 20, but 30 came so quickly. Thinking about all this makes me kind of depressed, but it also motivates me to enjoy the time I have w/ my children. Yes, they generate a lot of work for me right now, but in 2 decades (or less) when they are walking up the aisle, arm-in-arm w/ their new spouse, I know I will weep for these busy days gone by.
BTW, if you're reading this Knocker, thanks again for the video. It's very special to me (and Doug likes it, too!).

Are you kidding? Of course I'm reading! Happy 30th!
