Lotsa cookie tossin'
This past Wednesday I woke Chloe up around 5am to nurse. I noticed that she felt very warm. When Noah got up a couple hours later, he said his tummy hurt. A few minutes later, he started throwing up his milk. At first I thought that maybe he was just throwing up because I had given him too much probiotic the previous day (this has happened before). When Chloe woke up again to nurse, it was obvious she had a fever. I thought Claire was OK, but after breakfast she was playing happily at the train table when she projectile vomited all over it and the carpet. She gave no indication that she wasn't feeling well. Besides that whole vomiting thing, of course.
Chloe basically slept all day Wednesday. I would wake her up to nurse every 3 hours and then she would go right back to sleep. Thankfully she never threw up, just had a fever. She woke up happy and completely normal on Thursday.
Noah and Claire continued to throw up all day Wednesday. Noah sat on the couch or the bed in the living room w/ his bowl so he didn't make too much of a mess. Claire, on the other hand, liked to walk around the house and play like normal. But every couple of hours she would stop and toss her cookies all over the carpet or furniture she was on. In between heaves, she would try to say (verbally and w/ sign language), "All done all done".
On Wednesday night Noah and Claire were throwing up every 15-20 minutes. They couldn't keep anything down. We were starting to worry about dehydration as they were begging for water. Finally around 1:30am it started to slow down a little, and they got a few hours rest.
They were still vomiting on Thursday, though not nearly as frequently. Claire seemed a little better but Noah did not. She ate a little food but Noah was not hungry at all. They both felt warm.
Friday Claire was clearly on the mend though she had developed diarrhea in place of the vomiting. The poor girl had an accident in her panties and was so upset that she had lost control of her bowels. Noah was still not feeling great, though he did try to eat a little bit of supper (which he threw up).
Today they are both doing much better. They had some eggs for breakfast and played a little, though they did want to take early naps. Claire is still struggling w/ the diarrhea issue.
This is the first time I've ever had a child sick w/ a stomach bug, and I am thankful to be done w/ it. It's so hard to watch your child suffering and you can do nothing about it. I think that Doug and I would have gotten sick by now if we were going to get it, which is a good thing. Somebody has to be well enough to do all the laundry that piled up over the last few days.
