Fun with Spanish
Doug's parents bought the children an educational computer game that, among other things, teaches a little foreign language. It does French, Spanish, Japanese, and English. Noah likes to look at maps and learn about geography (as do his parents), so the foreign language thing is a nice complement to that interest.
So for a while now he has been telling me "gracias" for making supper, or asking for "agua" to drink. But then the other morning, he asked me if we were having "werewolves" for breakfast. I stopped and looked at him and asked him to repeat his question. Again, it sounded like he was asking for a big scary lupine creature to eat. I asked him where he had heard that word, as I could not fathom where he could have gotten it from. He said it was from the computer. Then it dawned on me. He was asking if we were going to have "huevos" for breakfast, which is "eggs" in Spanish. Whoo, howdy, did we get a good laugh out of that one.
The French language part of the game has a character named "Chloe" which Noah and Claire got a kick out of. Then Noah told us that there was also a "Claire" on the game, too. Wow, what a coincidence, we thought. Then Noah showed us where the game talks about "Claire". It was also in the French part, where it teaches about delicious French pastries. You know, the ones called "eclairs".
