Our little slugger
by Doug
One of the things I looked forward to the most about having children, and a son specifically, is to have someone to play baseball with me. Noah is starting to really take an interest in playing baseball, and I try to encourage it. He is getting very good at throwing the ball (he's definitely right-handed; not ideal for a long major league career as a pitcher), and his hitting has improved greatly in the past few weeks. I pitch to him overhand - pretty hard too, not just a light lob - and he makes solid contact. It's pretty impressive for a 4 year old.
Yesterday we went to a sporting goods store and bought him his first baseball glove, an aluminum tee-ball bat, and a ball that's between a baseball and softball in size. When we got home, he wanted to play with them immediately. I accidently gave him a pitch that hit his head, so today we went to the store and bought a helmet and a tee so he can hit without me. He's still not too good at catching the ball in his glove. He tends to cringe and back away when I throw it to him. I guess he can play in the American League and be a DH. Look for his big league debut in Yankee Stadium in 2027.
