A real knee-slapper

We were eating dinner yesterday evening, and during our intriguing dinner conversation, Noah mentioned something about cows, I think (I was too engrossed in eating my wife's delicious cooking). That prompted Carla to ask him "Why do cows wear bells?" Noah said "I don't know." Carla said "Because their horns don't work!" I started laughing, embellishing it a little for the kids enjoyment. Noah had a slightly confused look on his face, then started laughing with me. We realized at that moment that he has no idea what a joke is. We tried to explain it to him - it's a story or a question that makes people laugh. After a few minutes, Noah thought he would give it a try. He asks "Why do dogs wear collars?" Without waiting for an answer, he says "Because their eyes don't work!" We all laugh harder at his joke than hers, but with a slightly confused look on our faces.
